UPDATE: More Information on Tory MP Assassination

There are some updates in the investigation into the assassination earlier today of British Conservative MP Sir David Amess. As reported at The Tatum Report earlier, a knife-wielding assassin allegedly killed the Member of Parliament who was meeting with constituents at a public event in Leigh-on-Sea.

The Sun is reporting, “SIR David Amess’ killer booked an appointment to see the MP before stabbing him to death at his constituency surgery in Essex.” They also said, “Sir David was stabbed several times by a 25-year-old knifeman at Belfairs Methodist Church,” in what they described as a “bloodbath.”

Reportedly, Counter-terror officers of the Essex Police are leading the homicide investigation. Priti Patel, Britain’s Home Secretary, has asked all U.K. police forces to review their “security arrangements for MPs.”

A source told BBC that the man responsible is a British national of Somali heritage.

Ben-Julian Harrington, Essex Police Chief Constable, said they don’t believe anyone else is at risk, and “It will be for investigators to determine whether or not this is a terrorist incident, but as always they will keep an open mind.”

The Independent also mentioned, “There has not yet been any confirmation of whether the incident is being considered terror-related,” with no known motive. However, it is being reported that the Counter-terrorism police have, in fact, taken over the investigation.

The four living former British Prime Ministers, Theresa May, David Cameron, Tony Blair, and Sir John Major, issued statements where they spoke affectionately about Amess, the longest-serving MP in the U.K.

Father Jeffrey Woolnaugh held a vigil and Mass in tribute to the MP at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, “near where Sir David was killed.” Over 100 people reportedly joined the priest in mourning Amess’ death and celebrating his life.
