VA Changes Rules for Employees; Becomes First Government Agency to Mandate Vaccines

The Biden administration targets the Department of Veterans Affairs as the first government agency to mandate that all employees and volunteers get vaccinated from Covid.

Since most hospitals successfully mandated that their employees got vaccinations to keep their jobs, it likely seemed the most straightforward answer for the progressive administration seeking dominance over the nation’s health choices.

According to a Veterans Affairs press release, the “VA mandates COVID-19 vaccines among its medical employees including VHA facilities staff.”

The release dated July 26 stated, “Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Dennis McDonough announced he would make COVID-19 vaccines mandatory for Title 38 VA health care personnel.”

Anyone that works as “physicians, dentists, podiatrists, optometrists, registered nurses, physician assistants, expanded-function dental auxiliaries and chiropractors” and want to continue to do that work with the VA you have no choice but to get the vaccine.

This isn’t strictly for those that work within the Veterans Health Administration facilities, but it includes even the medical workers who provide any “direct care to those VA serves.”

Secretary McDonough said in the release, “We’re mandating vaccines for Title 38 employees because it’s the best way to keep Veterans safe, especially as the Delta variant spreads across the country.”

The press release claimed the department was following the opinion of the same pediatricians and medical groups responsible for guiding medical policy since the beginning of the pandemic.

The department claimed that it had lost four of its employees to COVID in recent weeks, remarking that “all of whom were unvaccinated.”

Secretary McDonough said, “Whenever a Veteran or VA employee sets foot in a VA facility, they deserve to know that we have done everything in our power to protect them from COVID-19. With this mandate, we can once again make – and keep – that fundamental promise.”

According to the release, “all VA employees are eligible to be vaccinated at no personal expense.” The VA is offering those that get the mandatory vaccine four hours of paid leave but only “after demonstrating they have been vaccinated.”

The VA wants to ensure that everyone knows “the safety and wellbeing of our Veterans and personnel is paramount,” just not their freedom to choose.
