Watch Sen. Paul Out-Docter Dr. Fauci

When beginning to break down the absolutely “back of the shed” whooping that Sen. Rand Paul gave Dr. Fauci at the Covid-19 Senate hearing yesterday, one hardly knows where to start. The moral of the following story is that Sen. Rand Paul out doctored Dr. Fauci. Sen. Paul got Dr. Fauci to lie on the record concerning his NIH funding of the Wuhan lab that used “gain-of-function research and gene editing” in the same lab as Covid-19.

Dr. Fauci,” Sen. Rand Paul begins, “We don’t know whether the pandemic started in a lab in Wuhan or evolved naturally, but we should want to know.”

Sen. Paul explains that American leadership should “want to know” how the virus that killed 3 million people was created. “Instead,” he said, “government authorities, self-interested in continuing gain-of-function research, say there is “nothing to see here.”

The increasingly controversial trend, Gain-of-function research, allows scientists to take a naturally occurring animal virus and alter its effectiveness at causing adverse reactions in humans.

For example, a naturally occurring virus that affects only bats could be weaponized to now infect, and possibly kill, humans.

Sen. Paul said, “To arrive at the truth, the U.S. government should admit that the Wuhan Virology Institute was experimenting to enhance the coronavirus’s ability to infect humans.”

“Juicing up super viruses is not new.” Paul said, “Scientists in the U.S have long known how to mutate animal viruses to infect humans.”

American virologist Dr. Ralph Baric and a Chinese virologist working for the Wuhan Virology Institute, Dr. Zheng-Li Shi, collaborated to the extent that Dr. Baric shared his research on how to make super viruses.

Sen. Rand Paul accuses Dr. Fauci, saying, “This gain-of-function research has been funded by the NIH. The collaboration between the U.S. and the Wuhan Virology Institute continues. Drs Baric and Shi work together to insert bat virus spike protein into the backbone of the deadly SARs virus; then used this man-made super virus to infect human airway cells.”

Paul argued that if the leaked-lab theory is true, the reality should give pause to all Americans. For example, he asked, “Can you imagine if a SARs virus that’s been juiced up and had viral proteins added to the spike protein had been released accidentally?”

Sen. Paul then directly asked Dr. Fauci about the taxpayer funding sent to the Wuhan Virology Institute, “Dr. Fauci, do you still support the NIH funding of the lab in Wuhan?”

The camera then pans to Dr. Fauci, who, up until this moment, was silent. Dr. Fauci responded, saying, “Sen. Paul, with all due respect, you are entirely and completely incorrect.”

Dr. Fauci: “The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

Sen. Paul: “Do they fund Dr. Baric’s gain-of-function research?”

Dr. Fauci: “Dr. Baric is not doing gain-of-function research, and if he is, it’s according to the guidelines. And, it is being conducted in North Carolina, not in China.”

Sen. Paul sees that Fauci is getting flustered as he asked, “You don’t think inserting a bat virus’s spike protein that he got from the Wuhan Institute into the SARs virus is gain-of-function? You would be in the minority because at least 200 scientists have signed a statement from the Cambridge working group saying that it is gain-of-function.”

Fauci continued to insist that Dr. Baric’s research is not gain-of-function, “Well, it’s not, and if you look at the grant and you look at the progress reports, it is not gain-of-function.”

Unfortunately for Dr. Fauci, reports unearthed enough evidence to prove that he lied to Sen. Paul under oath about the NIH funding for gain-of-function research – which is one of the possible ways Covid-19 was created.

Look no further than the NIH’s website. It shows that Dr. Fauci’s organization funded research on “Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence” with Dr. Peter Daszak starting in 2014 and ending in 2019:

“DESCRIPTION (provided by applicant): This project will examine the risk of future coronavirus (CoV) emergence from wildlife using in-depth field investigations across the human-wildlife interface in China, molecular characterization of novel CoVs and host receptor binding domain genes, mathematical models of transmission and evolution, and in vitro and in vivo laboratory studies of host range.”
