Woman Wakes from Two-Year Coma Naming Her Own Brother as Attacker

A West Virginia woman surprised everyone when she awoke from a two-year coma and named the person responsible for her near-death experience: her brother.

Wanda Palmer, 51, was “attacked, hacked, and left for dead” in June 2020. She was found in an “upright position” on her couch at her home near Cottageville, West Virginia. Police believed she was dead as her wounds were so severe.

Jackson County Sheriff Ross Mellinger said his office received a call from Wanda’s care facility indicating that she was finally able to speak with law enforcement.

She had suffered severe head trauma resulting in brain damage but was able to effectively communicate with police last week. She provided information about the incident, subsequently identifying her brother as the attacker.

While Daniel Palmer was allegedly seen by a witness on his sister’s porch the night before police arrived at her house, police had no viable suspects prior to her awakening.

The weapon used in the attack, which was thought to be an axe or hatchet, was never discovered either.

Mellinger told the network that it was challenging to fully examine the case due to a lack of eyewitnesses, phone records, and security footage.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office of West Virginia posted a statement on Facebook announcing Daniel’s arrest, which occurred this past Friday.

Daniel has been charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
