Wyoming Senate Votes “Yes” To Defund Gender Studies at University of Wyoming

The Wyoming Senate passed an amendment last week that would defund the Gender and Women’s Studies program at the University of Wyoming. The amendment was made to the state’s budget. The next step is moving the bill to the House for final approval.

Sen. Cheri Steinmetz, a Republican, authored the amendment. She stated:

“Fellow senators, this just says that we are not going to expend any funds at the University of Wyoming under the control of the university for any gender studies courses, academic programs, or co-curricular programs or extracurricular programs.”

Steinmetz felt compelled to author the amendment after taking a hard look at some of the courses the university offered. One of the goals of the program explicitly says, “You will learn how to analyze socio-historical and contemporary power dynamics across rural, local, community, transnational, and global contexts, articulate the history, strategies, and goals of interconnected movements for social justice, perform and develop intersectional, interdisciplinary feminist and queer analysis.”

Steinmetz urged her fellow constituents to vote with their “conscience.” Senator Charles Scott noted that the program promotes a biased and “ideologically driven program.” He added that he believes this amendment will send a message to the university to improve their quality of education and instruction.

  1. Another reason I love my state of Wyoming. We believe is the truth. Classes taught at university level all over the country are twisting facts, blurring truth and rewriting “history” as they see fit. I believe there are social and racial injustices in the world but not on a nationwide scale here in the US. The less far left wing propaganda being taught, the better off we as a Republic will be. Teaching, at any level, that we are racist as a society is ludicrous. Rewriting history is not how changes are made in society. A lot more true work and heart are what will change our world now.
