Chet Hanks’ latest Instagram post shows him “encouraging” his followers to get the vaccine. Except that he’s not.
The video is captioned, “SUPER IMPORTANT PSA GUYS LETS GET THRU THIS TOGETHER.”
He opens up with what appears to be a serious effort to persuade his followers to get vaccinated.
After all, his very famous father, Tom Hanks, and his actress mother, Rita Wilson, were the first American celebrities to contract the coronavirus in March 2020. Their condition declined within a few days, and they were quarantined then hospitalized in Australia for a couple of weeks.
Both have long since recovered and are still alive, with seemingly no lasting or long-term effects.
“I’ve been kinda on the fence about this for a while; that’s why I never spoke on it,” the video starts out.
Perhaps he’s poking fun at all of the other celebrities and social media influencers who’ve used their clout to influence the masses. Upon the first watch, however, the viewer is unaware that Hanks is not serious.

Either way, the viewer is hooked into listening to his “heart-felt” monologue.
With the number of people he knows that have recently contracted COVID and numbers rising, Hanks claims to have gotten the vaccine because it’s “important for me to say, like, I got the vaccine. I think everybody should.”
He’s looking past the camera as he speaks, appearing sincere as he recommends that all of his followers get vaccinated, too.
Repeating what every other paid and unpaid celebrity is saying, “I think it’s really important, like, that we all do this, just as, like, citizens, as Americans we have to look out for each other and get this sh*t under control guys.”
But Chet Hanks knows the truth — everything is not what they’ve been telling us.
“PSYCH! B*tch! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I’ve never had COVID; you ain’t stickin’ me with that motherf****n’ needle! It’s the motherf*****in’ flu, get over it!” he hollers at the camera in bait-and-switch style.
The viewer then realizes that the first half of the video was an apparent mockery of social media influencers and celebrities.
He tells those that are sick to stay inside and questions why we are working around all the sick people, calling out the ability of sick people to keep themselves safe by staying inside.
He closes with, “If you’re in danger, stay your a** inside! I’m tired of wearing a motherf****n mask!”
Hanks has made a name for himself as an actor and musician. He has had recurring roles on the series Empire and Shameless and appearing as Joey Maldini in the miniseries Your Honor on Showtime.
